Job description

Job Title: Director, Paid Search Marketing (SEM)

Location: NYC

Format: Hybrid; semi-remote with periodic in-person meetings required in our NYC office

Overview:

Macy's is looking for an expert in Paid Search Marketing (SEM) to lead and manage our keyword and shopping portfolios. This person will be responsible for increasing paid search traffic, sales and return on ad spend (ROAS). The position will report to the VP of Communications and Media and includes responsibility for leading the in-house SEM team, external media agencies, search engine account leads and cross-functional partners. The role requires strong technical, strategic, planning, operational, analytical, communication and leadership skills.

Key Accountabilities:

- Senior point of contact for paid search media

- Define omni-channel paid search strategy, operational roadmap and resources required for delivery

- Lead development and implementation of annual, seasonal, and quarterly media plans - inclusive of measurement, reporting and optimization recommendations

- Lead the cross-functional team, inclusive of direct reports, media agencies and search engines

- Collaborate with stakeholder base and build highly productive cross-functional partnerships

- Provide thought leadership, including, but not limited to, industry news, trends, best practices, and competitive insights

- Deliver growth in key metrics, including, but not limited to site & store traffic, conversion, sales & ROAS

Skills Summary:

- Extensive experience managing and directing across the full spectrum of a paid search value chain; strategy development, joint business planning, project road mapping, media planning, test planning, media activation, media measurement, reporting, optimization, and innovation

- Minimum 5+ years

- Any relevant SEO experience will be a meaningful value add

- Experience must be broad and deep in both text and shopping ads - including:

- Hands-on experience with search management platforms such as Search Ads 360, Skai (formerly Kenshoo) and shopping feed management tools like Productsup

- Expertise with both automated and manual bidding solutions

- The most-qualified candidates:

- Will have backgrounds in large-scale, omni-channel retail, with proven ability to persistently increase click share, traffic, conversion, sales & ROAS

- Will have experience delivering value across the full funnel/customer journey (i.e., awareness, consideration & demand) while optimizing across an array of KPIs (e.g., CPA, CPI, ROAS, ROI, etc.)

- Will have experience working with different attribution methodologies (e.g., last click & multi-touch) and measurement systems (e.g., Adobe, Google Analytics, Neustar)

- Will be highly-skilled at coordinating and directing action across a wide stakeholder base, consisting of internal and external partners - e.g., in-house team, cross-functional disciplines, media agencies, search engines and technology service providers

- Will have superior

- Communication and presentation skills; across all levels; including senior executive leadership teams

- Analytics skills with ability to distill critical and actionable insights & optimizations

- Planning and organizational skills with sharp attention to detail

- Audience planning skills, with ability to maximize business value with both 1st & 3rd party audience data sets - including personalization

- Problem solving skills, including the ability to navigate through ambiguity and make critical decisions with imperfect information

- Will have proven leadership abilities

- To inspire and motivate the full cross-functional team

- Acquire and retain high-performing talent

- Guide, mentor and develop the career paths of direct reports

- Will have a baseline understanding of ecommerce: site operations, taxonomies, team structures, workflows, marketplaces, media networks, etc.

Education:

- BA/BS in Marketing, or BA/BS in Engineering/Mathematics

- MBA is strongly preferred
