Director-Technical Accounting
Position Summary
The Director of Technical Accounting dedicates the necessary resources toward the research and interpretation of complex accounting rules. As new and existing accounting rules affect our organization in any number of different ways, it requires dedicated attention to ensure on-going compliance. This role, in support and conjunction with the Executive Director of Technical Accounting, will require a proactive approach toward evaluating proposed technical standards as well as assisting multiple organizational disciplines through the steps necessary to apply these standards when they are enacted. This person will be a critical resource in the implementation of new United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ("US GAAP") convergence standards and the conversion to International Financial Reporting Standards ("IFRS").
Job Description
- Provide research and support on all matters of US GAAP (including, but not limited to, new rules, new business transactions and annual compliance with complex rules such as those related to i) fair value ii) business combinations iii) intangible asset valuation, etc.)
- Work with a cross-functional US GAAP and IFRS project team
- Assist in performing a technical accounting review of the Company's significant new contracts to ensure compliance (including, but not limited to, business combinations, license arrangements, collaborative arrangements, etc.)
- Remain current with regard to US GAAP developments of the Financial Accounting Standards Board ("FASB"), the Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC"), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants ("AICPA") and IFRS and the related convergence with US GAAP
- Work with the Financial Compliance group in the development and review of global financial policies
- Assist and support on corporate special projects as needed
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting- CPA, MBA a plus
- Minimum 8 years' relevant experience
- Experience with technical accounting matters while working for one of the "Big Four" public accounting firms (KPMG, Ernst & Young, PwC or Deloitte)
- A track record of results-oriented client service
- Must be able to perform in-depth technical accounting research utilizing Thomson Reuters and/or other electronic research applications
- An independent thinker that appreciates the nuances of technical accounting matters and can effectively integrate the nature and spirit of accounting standards with the complexities of a multi-billion-dollar, multi-national organization
- Experience with business combinations, business valuations and asset valuations are strongly preferred
- Flexibility to move between a variety of tasks including structured well-defined group tasks as well as less precisely structured independent activities
