Director, Global Trade & Customs Compliance
The position is responsible for supporting Tapestry's Vice President of Global Trade Services focusing on North America in ensuring the company's processes, internal controls and reporting are compliant with customs and trade laws while driving the company's overall trade optimization strategy. The position will also provide international compliance support on country of origin marking, product valuation, tariff classification, duties paid, etc. and continuously assess potential compliance risks and opportunities.

Job description

Lead a team of customs and trade professionals to optimize a compliance and risk mitigation program that delivers value to the business
- Strengthen a program for ensuring compliance with applicable trade laws and regulations, as well communicating these requirements to internal and external partners
- Proactively identify opportunities to reduce customs/import tax costs, mitigate risks and improve cash flow and cash management strategies
- Support business development strategies and other growth opportunities like foreign trade zones, bonded warehouses, market expansions, license buybacks and providing advice and solutions in respect of customs/import taxes
- Identify opportunities to streamline, harmonize and support the roll-out of compliance best practices
- Provide commercially focused advice on all aspects of customs/import taxes relating to the group's international supply chain
- Develop and deliver training on Trade Compliance topics as needed to internal and external partners and ensure the sustainability of the company's duty savings productivity platform
- Communicate and maintain oversight of Customs Brokers and other agents
- Manage customs audits and inquiries, applications for rulings, protests, post summary corrections and other negotiations with customs authorities
- Collaborate with colleagues in the US and abroad on various compliance topics
- Support the Vice President of Global Trade Services on various projects, as needed such as conducting research on various trade topics, supporting long-term strategic initiatives and working cross-functionally and divisionally to drive global trade agenda


- Ability to lead a team, prioritize work, and inspire others especially through times of change
- Working knowledge of WTO, regional and local import tariff rules and practices together with working knowledge of other taxes payable on the shipment of tangible goods (e.g. import VAT)
- Practical experience of customs/import tax valuation and compliance processes, from extraction of data and preparation of documentation to the handling of disputes
- Sound commercial awareness and understanding of business drivers
- Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize personal workload
- Self-starter with ability to work effectively in multicultural, international teams focused on identifying practical solutions
- Excellent English writing and speaking skills with the ability to present complex subject matter clearly and succinctly
An outstanding professional will have...
- 10+ years of experience within industry or Big 4 with extensive knowledge of customs and trade rules to global supply chains
- Law degree, Certified Public Accountant or US Customs brokerage license a plus but not required
- Understanding of Integration Point or other software trade management solutions
