Job description

The Special Programs Director will be responsible for managing compliance with and delivering value through the Company's Special Trade Programs, including the Foreign Trade Zone, Free Trade Agreements and the U.S. Goods Returned Program, among others, and managing third party duty drawback providers. The Special Programs Director will drive the identification, assessment, development and execution of Special Programs. This individual will report to the Global Trade Compliance Executive Director and will coordinate with the Company's U.S. Import and Export Compliance Director to ensure the smooth operation of the Company's trade programs and compliance with applicable laws.
- Manage the Company's Special Programs compliance programs
- Manage execution of controls and processes for Special Programs
- Manage third parties that provide Special Programs services, such as duty drawback providers or training partners
- Maintain awareness of Special Programs regulatory changes and ensure updates are made to internal control materials and communicated appropriately
- Ensure effective and efficient operations of Special Programs through, among other things, awareness of industry best practices and IT solutions and services to minimize operational and compliance costs
- Assess and report results of Special Programs benefits and compliance reviews on a regular basis
- Drive identification of additional savings through usage through Special Programs
- The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is performed in a normal office environment with minimal physical risks involved. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate. Occasionally the job may require that you enter the production area, which you will need to maintain OSHA safety standards.

Profile

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. - Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of related professional experience
- The applicant must be a licensed customs broker or be willing to sit for the customs broker exam
- Experience with U.S. Special Programs or overseeing import entries at a high volume importer or customhouse broker
- Experience with the HTSUS and merchandise classification
- Experience working closely with U.S. Customs and Border Protection
- Expertise in logistics activities, including import activities and compliance systems
- Strong Microsoft Excel and Word skills - with Project a plus
- Strong writing, communication, training and research skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently, with general guidance, and as a team player
- Strong organizational skills and ability to establish priorities among a wide array of projects
- Sound judgment, professional demeanor, good work ethic and business acumen
- Willingness and ability to travel to FTZ locations for CBP audits or training
