WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for an outstanding Director for Materials Design to combine their creative vision, strategy building, team leadership, critical thinking experience to help lead the material design team, within the Nike Catalyst team.
The ideal candidate needs to be a highly creative problem solver, who doesn't settle for anything less than the best design and materials solutions, and will effectively lead the team to meet the needs of the consumer on and off the court. This person will be passionate about building a vision and strategy to enable the team to elevate the consumer experience through materials that are truly pushing the edges of footwear material design.
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
If this is you, you will be working on a range of material design strategies and roadmaps for the Catalyst segments of Nike Design Exploration, Purpose, Co-create and NBY. You will work on a range from elevating new technologies for brand-new models, all the way to focusing on telling stories by curating and elevating existing materials for our classics and iconic products.
From concepting and ideating all the way to making sure the products are going through the final product creations process, you will be partnering with executive leadership to define and build a vision for the future of Nike Footwear products.
From leading the team on seasonal concepting, to successfully leading the annual goal setting and performance evaluation process. From working with key cross functional partners to evaluating consumer insights and trends effectively and providing feedback and mentorship on each category or specific models to your design team seasonally, the daily responsibilities of this role are wide ranging, results-oriented, and exciting!
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
This role does have direct reports, and reports directly to the Sr Creative Director of Nike Footwear Material Design, while regularly partnering with other Footwear, Color and Apparel Design Directors, Development Directors, Sustainability Product leadership, NXT, Product and Merchandising Directors.

Profile

WHAT YOU BRING
- Minimum eight years' experience in Design-related roles, with preference for color, materials and innovation experience.
- 2 years minimum in a management or leadership role (5 years preferred)
- Bachelor's degree in design, art or related field; fashion design, product design, industrial design, accessory and footwear design, or textile design; will also accept a master's degree in fashion design, product design, accessory and footwear design, industrial design, or textile design
- 2 years' additional experience in lieu of a degree
- Ability to mentor staff, build opportunities for staff development, make hiring decisions, and drive performance management, recognition and rewards.
- Ability to build seasonal concepts, as well as short and long term vision.
- Ability to translate consumer knowledge/insights to narratives and product executions.
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Presentation/Communication style: Clear, Concise, and Thoughtful (strong verbal and written skills). Ability to present new insights or seasonal concepts to small and large groups, including presenting to executive leaders, and external partners or customers
- Experience building inspiration/concept presentations, and mood boards for seasonal concepts and direction
- Experience building 3D samples and crafting mockup samples by hand
- Awareness of current material trends, technology, and sport-related products through research.
- Strong organizational skill, and ability to lead team meetings, cascade critical functional information and Creative Direction.
- Expertise and full understanding of the Footwear Product Creation process.
- Researched on the latest industry developments within sustainability, technology and manufacturing
- Ability to build and edit files using Adobe programs including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
- Ability in participating in multiple projects with competing priorities and deadlines
- Passion for experimental and innovating design.
