Job description

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for an outstanding Director for our Nike Kids Materials Design team to curate, collaborate and be the creative motivator to encourage and connect innovation and culture into the team. They will bring their creative vision, strategy building, team leadership, and critical thinking experience to help advise the material design team.
The ideal candidate needs to be a highly creative problem solver, who doesn't settle for anything less than the best design and materials solutions, and will effectively lead the team to meet the needs of the consumer on and off the court! This person will be passionate about building a vision and strategy to enable the team to elevate the consumer experience through materials and by pushing the edges of sustainable footwear material design.
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
If this is you, you will be leading and collaborating with material development on a range of material design strategies and roadmaps for the Kids segments of Nike sports and lifestyle, from grade school to toddler product. You will work on elevating new technologies that influence brand-new models, as well as on seasonal narratives elevating existing materials for our classics and iconic products.
Your goal will be to strive for product excellence by partnering with key stakeholders cross-functionally on the product creations process, and by aligning with leadership to define and build a vision for the future of Nike Kids Footwear products.
You will unleash creativity with a focus on sustainability for product and people across our team, leveraging consumer insights to inform our creative response. And focus on how we drive innovation and cultural connections embedded into our designs to build separation.
In order to support and drive process discipline across functions and down through the team, you will partner and lead stabilizing the calendar alignment & streamline the design process to simplify and remove barriers for creativity.
As a leader, you will be responsible for the annual goal setting and performance evaluation process, while providing feedback and mentorship to your design team seasonally with the goal to build a safe empowering and equitable work culture for all.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
This role does have direct reports, and reports directly to the Sr Creative Director of Nike Footwear Material Design, while regularly partnering with Material Development Director and other Footwear, Color and Apparel Design Directors, Development Directors, Sustainability Product leadership, NXT Partners and Directors, Product and Merchandising Directors as well as Vendor partners.

Profile

WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Design , Textile design, Footware Design or combination of relevant education, experience, and training.
- Minimum eight years' experience in Design-related roles, with preference for color, materials and innovation experience.
- 2 years minimum in a management or leadership role (5 years preferred)
- Strong communication and relationship leadership skills.
- Ability to influence and thoughtfully impact change.
- Presentation/Communication style: Clear, Concise, and Thoughtful (strong verbal and written skills). Ability to present new insights or seasonal concepts to small and large groups, including addressing executive leaders, and external partners or customers.
- Experience building inspiration/concept presentations, and mood boards for seasonal concepts and direction.
- Ability to build seasonal concepts, as well as short and long term strategic vision.
- Ability to lead, partner and translate consumer insights to narratives and product executions.
- Ability to create concepts and explore new Materials innovations, technologies and ideas.
- Ability to lead workshops and team ideation sessions, with empowered engagement and achievable actions.
- Awareness of current material trends, technology, and sport-related products through research.
- Research and cross pollinate to encourage on the latest industry developments within sustainability, technology and manufacturing.
- Strong organizational skill, and ability to lead team meetings, cascade critical functional information and Creative Direction.
- Expertise and full understanding of the Footwear Product Creation process.
- Ability to prioritize calendar alignment and remove barriers for creativity.
- Align and drive the team to deliver on time and hand off with precision.
- Adopt, accept and drive key templates across gates, handovers and tech packs.
- Align and partner across genders & X functional partners for unified activity approach.
- Ability to build and edit files using Adobe programs including Photoshop, Illustrator, and in Design.
- Ability in participating in multiple projects with contending priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to mentor staff, build opportunities for staff development, make hiring decisions, and drive performance management, recognition and rewards.
- Put the team first in all decisions, and lift up team members to grow and lead.
