Overview:

This individual will play a key role in developing and executing a roadmap to deliver new and differentiated ways of shopping on web and app - including social shopping, personal style, and customer engagement digital products. Strong candidates should possess a proven track record of delivery, working with and influencing senior executives in a cross-functional context, and using data to drive decision-making. The Principal Product Manager will draw on his/her experience to build relationships and lead the development of key strategic initiatives. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Product Management - Differentiated Experiences.

Essential Functions:

The Principal of Product Management's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leads the development of features and functionality for key strategic initiatives, including the identification of business opportunities, requirements definition, project implementation and evaluation
  • Combines a strong understanding of customer needs with an equally deep understanding of business goals to champion solutions that deliver value for macys.com
  • Independently identifies new opportunities and develops business case/ROI for projects in particularly ambiguous, complex, and emerging domains, including:

    • Gathering input from a variety of internal stakeholders, and external resources
    • Conducting industry analysis (identifying market trends)
    • Understanding the competitive landscape (identifying best practices through competitive analysis)
    • Justifying development initiatives and expenditures, based on financial modeling
    • Analyzing existing Macy's data, and conducting user research/testing
    • Evaluating technologies (internal capabilities, and vendor offerings)
  • Socializes opportunity assessments, driving to alignment among the highest level of leadership in the organization
  • Autonomously leads and motivates multiple cross-functional teams throughout the entire life cycle of product development, including deployment and post-deployment
  • Partners closely with engineering on concepts, architecture, development and maintenance of product portfolio
  • Leads an agile pod including developers, designers, and analysts through agile development: including agile ceremonies, writing stories/acceptance criteria, maintaining backlogs, etc.
  • Coaches other product managers and acts as a thought leader to the digital product leadership team
  • Accountable for the financial impact and customer experience of the products produced, using analysis to measure the results of feature deployments to quantify the business benefit/impact, and identify further business opportunities or recommendations of product evolution
  • Structures customer research in partnership with insights & research teams
  • If necessary, coordinates with outside vendors and partners to ensure their work is delivered on time and on scope
Skills Summary:

Qualifications:

  • Education/Experience: BA/BS required
  • 8 to 10 years product management experience with a proven track record of leading products of significant scale and complexity
  • Customer-obsessed: passionate about baking customer experience into how you think and operate
  • Intellectually curious with strong analytical skills, including demonstrated ability in performing complex data analysis and drawing actionable insights and building strategies against the analysis
  • Ability to execute independent research projects, and generate practical results and recommendations
  • Strong presentation skills with an exceptional ability to communicate new ideas and findings
  • A good balance of analytical and creative thinking
