Job Summary

In a team centered environment, manages the development and approval of private label apparel for specific product classifications. Provides technical and creative expertise for garment, fabric and trim development and approvals with a constant focus on quality and timeliness. Provides written documentation of all development specs and approvals in the form of a PDM technical report. Collaborates and contributes to color and trend research. Manages Sr. Technical Product Specialists, Technical Product Specialist and/or Product Assistants by providing guidance, training and direction in all aspects of Product Development. Develops strong customer service and working relationships with Agents, Buyers, Vendors and other inter-departmental associates.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Develops strong working relationships with Agents to resolve all issues related to Product Development. Ensures styling details are clearly communicated and understood by Agents.

  • Ensures all production problems are addressed and resolved in a timely manner.

  • Travels overseas and domestically to visit agents and vendors to perform fit and pre-production approvals.

  • Initiates the prototype development process at the beginning of each development cycle.

  • Provides creative and technical support to the Product Development Team.

  • Provides detailed and accurate documentation of style details in the form of a PDM technical report for the purpose of costing.

  • Manages the review and approval of pre-production and production samples for quality and fit based on Marmaxx standards.

  • Manages trim, fabric and yarn development as well as approval of all print strikeoffs and artwork.

  • Directs vendors to correct measurements and construction when necessary.

  • Solicits feedback from Agents, Buyers and Design Managers throughout the approval process.

  • Ensures that Marmaxx standards are consistent and current with market trends.

  • Manages Sr. Technical Product Specialist, Technical Product Specialist and/or Product Assistants by providing guidance, training and direction in all aspects of Product Development.

  • Special projects as assigned or directed.

  • Requirements:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design/Clothing Textiles or equivalent experience.

    • 7-10 years in the garment industry with manufacturing, retail production and/or private label production background.

    • International travel experience.

    • Management/supervision experience

    • Good eye for color and design

    • Highly skilled in evaluation of garment fit and construction and all technical aspects of garment production.

    • Proficient in pattern making

    • PC skills including Excel and Microsoft Word, PDM a plus

    • Flat sketching skills, Micrografx Designer a plus

    • Strong organizational and follow-through skills

    • Works well as a team leader with the ability to handle multiple projects
