Job description

The Salon Manager is responsible for the functional management of the salon. This position reports to the Spa & Salon Director and Store Manager to ensure the uniform execution of the Division direction within the salon and store. This position is exempt.

Sales & Profit

Responsible for:

Personal Sales

  • Meeting or exceeding personal service and retail sales goals.
  • Meeting or exceeding personal sales per hour (SPH) goals.
  • Acknowledging the client within five minutes of client's checking into the salon.
  • Building a client base by recruiting New Request Clients.
  • Providing quality professional service through technical skills and prescribing appropriate retail products to clients.
  • Ability to cross sell services to other areas of the salon.
  • Responding professionally to customer service issues and promptly addressing complaints.
  • Exhibiting good communication skills when dealing with a difficult or corrective service situation.
  • Ensuring that refunds and re-do's are handled in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Ongoing personal continuing education on products, services, and current issues relating to the industry.
  • Promoting business outside of the salon.
  • Adjusting schedule to meet client needs.
Salon Sales

  • Meeting or exceeding salon sales and profit plans.
  • Meeting or exceeding Customer First goals.
  • Communication with Store Manager and division management regarding issues and needs.
  • Purchases all service supplies, utilizes sound assortment planning and item selection to meet plan.
  • Merchandise consistently presented in salon with Belk retail planogram and merchandising standards.
  • Timely inventory replenishment.
  • Timely remittance of all salon invoices to Expense Payable Department for processing and vendor payment.
  • Controlling shrinkage and back bar and service supply usage/waste.
  • Proper execution of all existing systems and procedures, and ownership of new system implementations and processes.
  • Price integrity in the salon, including timely completion of permanent price changes.
  • Ensure that all price changes are communicated through the approved channels, and report all deviations to the Salon Director.
  • Housekeeping and maintenance in the salon.
Expense Planning & Management

Responsible for:

  • Adhering to annual expense budgets for salon to achieve profit goals.
  • Monitoring salon payroll and non-payroll expenses to achieve annual expense % goals.
  • Controlling training and travel expenses.
  • Taking timely corrective action on expense budget variances.
  • Adequate staffing to meet customer service expectations and sales goals.
People Development

Responsible for:

  • Conducting timely reviews and communicating development needs with direct reports. Set goals and identify areas for improvement.
  • Rearranging and adjusting work schedules as needed to recruit, give presentations in schools, attend meetings, shows and classes.
  • Recruiting, interviewing, selecting and retaining quality associates and ensure all positions are filled in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining high salon morale through efficient, timely communications of policies and other information. Follow through on all concerns or problems that develop within the salon.
  • Providing effective coaching in order to improve performance of all associates.
  • Providing recognition and support to meet personal sales goals.
  • Communicating with associates on possible career paths and advancement opportunities.
  • Conducting mid-year and year-end performance appraisals for all associates.
  • Conducting corrective reviews and terminating unproductive associates.
  • Ensuring execution of Job Information Surveys every twelve to eighteen months. Reviewing all Job Information Surveys with store management team and Regional Manager and ensuring that prompt communication and follow up is done to address issues.
Position Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • GED or High School Diploma
  • Two to five years supervisory experience in the cosmetology or cosmetic industry.
  • Proficient in computer business-related computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, etc).
  • Analytical and reasoning skills.

  • Ability to use computer keyboard, standard telephone and other related business equipment.
  • Ability to Travel.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
