Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Marc Jacobs International, powered by the creative genius of Marc Jacobs, seeks a Senior Director of Global Retail Buying to join the Global Merchandising team based in its New York City (SoHo) headquarters. Reporting directly to the CMO (Chief Merchandising Officer), the Senior Director of Merchandising will leverage proficiency in merchandising and buying to drive the Mainline and Outlet product and assortment strategy globally. Marc Jacobs International is part of the Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH) fashion division and operates in the wholesale and direct-to-consumer retail markets.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, execute, and communicate seasonal omnichannel buying strategies to meet or exceed the financial goals of the global business
  • Partner with Planning to develop seasonal Open-To-Buy, driving improvement in the buying and merchandising cycle, including sales, sell-through analysis, and inventory
  • Build effective partnerships with team members in Product Merchandising and Visual Merchandising - influence the behavior and opinions of others using pertinent data and customer insights to drive results
  • Analyze and hindsight the global business on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis to inform future buying decisions and product action plans
  • Manage cross-functional team relationships by providing direction on vision, strategy, and meetings to unify the team toward a common goal.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of overall business - performance, product/style, accounts, regions - identify challenges and opportunities based on sales results and competitive landscape
  • Work with Senior Leadership to identify new business opportunities and execute the go-forward strategy.
  • Develop a deep understanding of target consumer needs; drive ongoing market and consumer feedback to maximize product relevance for target customer segments across all markets
  • Work with commercial teams to brief on specific product needs, including exclusives and promotional needs to manage product lifecycle and financial goals.
  • Partner with Marketing teams to develop and implement compelling storytelling and traffic-driving initiatives.
  • Work closely with Inventory Management and Allocation team to ensure that inventory turn goals are met and assortments by door are maximized
  • Promote an environment that fosters the ideas of others and supports ongoing collaboration to execute business strategies; measures own success by that of the team's success
  • Train, develop, and retain both direct and in-direct reports; Effectively manage and support the career development process of direct reports to ensure job satisfaction and future talent development

Profile

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in Leather goods and RTW, with experience in both Mainline and Outlet channels

  • Excellent product sensibility & thorough knowledge of luxury & contemporary market trends

  • Previous experience in OTB planning; strong command of retail math concepts, applications, and statistical analysis

  • Knowledge and sensitivity of the product development and production process a plus

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to engage and influence internally and externally

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to successfully navigate in such an environment

  • Proven track record of building successful relationships at all levels of an organization

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Team-orientated with the ability to multi-task

  • Ability to take the initiative, ownership, and accountability for business
